Meet Matt Vergotis

Hi, I’m Matt Vergotis, Founder of VERG on the Gold Coast, Australia.

I have a simple philosophy in life, and that is to do the things you love to do. I am fortunate enough to say that this applies directly to my working life. My aim is to provide effective, clean and highly creative brand identity and custom typography solutions, infusing that genuine love for the craft into every single project.

I believe a business should fall completely in love with their identity, rather than just settling for mediocre attempts. Over the last 25 years, my custom logo designs have been featured on leading international design platforms, published in industry books and trusted by clients across all four corners of the globe.

Process

My creative process always starts the traditional way, getting down and dirty with pencils, pens, and paper. I take pride in making old-school craftsmanship relevant for the modern era. My happy place is a completely blank sheet of paper, letting thoughts, concepts and visions flow seamlessly from my mind directly onto the sketchpad.

It is during this analog stage where you catch that lightning in a bottle, and a genuine concept is conceived. From there, I shift into beast mode. With over two decades of technical expertise, I have a deep understanding of how to translate, digitise and execute a raw idea. I meticulously refine and push a concept until it strikes perfect visual harmony, presenting complete systems that guide my clients effortlessly through the entire design journey.

It is the passion behind every project that creates successful outcomes.

Reviews & Testimonials

Trusted words from some of my past clients.

I came across Matt’s beautiful lettering work randomly on a graphic design site one day and was inspired to reach out. I’m glad I did – we would go on to contract with him to provide custom lettering, logo design, and art direction for hundreds of projects over the next 2 years.

He has played a major role in defining the look of some of Spotify’s most popular podcasts and most successful artist marketing campaigns, and beyond being a uniquely talented guy, we found him to be a great collaborator and a tireless worker. We were very lucky to have him as a member of our extended work family.

My appreciation of Matt’s skills borders on creepy – when my wife and I decided to get custom tattoos at our wedding reception, guess who we turned to for the designs… as a result I don’t think it’s overstating it to say that I spend time with his art on a daily basis.

Five out of five stars would hire again!

Jessie Burton - Creative Director, Spotify

We highly recommend Matt Vergotis. Matt has created a stand out brand and visual identity for our new distillery – Horse’s Tale Distilling Co.

When we approached Matt, he asked what our brand story was. We had no idea what we wanted our visual branding to look like! All we knew was that we want our labels to stand out on the shelf. Matt knew he had a challenge on his hand but he was so keen to get his creative jam on and create something spectacular. Matt was able to ask all the right questions to get the information from us he needed. And then all we had to do was trust him and his creativity.

The end result is a bold distillery brand identity that blends quirky illustrations with bold colours and hand drawn elements. We’re in love with what Matt’s created and so are our customers. We’ve only done a soft launch and so far everyone is loving the brand. Matt thinks of everthing, every element a brand needs for a standout visual identity.

Matt, you’re brilliant and we can’t recommend you enough and look forward to working with you again when we extend our range. Thank you!

Fleur Horsley - Founder, Horse's Tale

One of the most critical aspects of creating an alcohol brand is how it’s perceived visually by someone when sitting on a shelf, particularly with the large amount of choices sitting next to it. With this in mind, we knew we needed the best, and Matt was it. He created something that is regularly described by our customers as “beautiful” and we couldn’t agree more. Matt’s creative ability is only matched by his patience as he tirelessly worked through the different ideas we had. We’d recommend Matt to anyone wanting to create a world-class brand.

The management team at Southport Sharks became aware of Matt’s work through food and beverage brands on the Gold Coast. Supporting local business, it was important for Sharks to engage a local designer.

The brief to Matt was to bring the Sharks into the modern era. The rebrand had to include a flexible logo that could be adaptable for corporate and sporting applications. The project from initial concept design to roll-out was completed during a nine month period. During this time Matt was very professional and always put our objectives first.

The final design is an iconic representation of the club and what we stand for. We have no hesitation in recommending Matt for any branding projects.

Southport Sharks - Andrew Zurcas – Marketing Manager

Our client was expecting nothing short of the best when it came to his logo design and brand package… hence the reason we sought out and placed the project into the capable hands of Matt Vergotis of Verg Advertising. Matt happens to be the first gentleman we’ve ever worked with outside The United States on a large scale project but not once did we feel any distance. Matt doesn’t just “take jobs”, he approves and accepts them based on his skills set. Not surprisingly, his first presentation didn’t just meet the needs of our client’s vision, it embodied it. He delivered faster that expected and enthusiastically catered to our every need throughout the project…. the first of many to come.

Benchmark Houston Builders - Braden Tokoly

Working with Verg was a great experience. Initially we worried about using someone from another country (us in the US, Verg in Aus) but Matt made us feel comfortable about the exchange. Dealing with timezone differences was not an issue as Matt was very available via email and Skype.

Here are some highlights from our experience:

Creativity was top notch with our design
Polished, thoughtful, calculated
Bold in attempting designs
Turn around time in artworking is quick
Captured the brand brief details we provided

We would certainly use him for future projects.

Matt Vergotis is a branding and hand-lettering genius. Easily one of the best in the business. He pretty much read our minds, and created a brand that not only perfectly symbolises our vision, but will also stand the test of time. His attention to detail extends far beyond that of most brand designers, and this is clearly reflected in the quality of his work. If you are looking for someone who can really deliver, Matt Vergotis is the guy who can make it happen.

Bargain Spot - Justin Gray, Founder Bargain Spot

You took a below-average logo and website and transformed it into an appealing professional look all the way around. It was an absolute pleasure working with you and your attention to detail and design initiatives are excellent. While a small company, your dedication to your clients is not something that I have come across in my 12 years of online activity, which is just another reason that I continue to use your services today.

We are a very fussy company all the way over in Istanbul, Turkey, but the performance of Matt and his company with three successful projects has made us one of his biggest fans. Thanks.

VERG Advertising has helped us grow our business over a number of projects during the last few years, but one particular piece of work stands out; Matt from VERG produced a magazine advert for us that really summarised what we bring to our clients in a striking visual manner with little text whatsoever. A few people contacted us just to find out who our designer including the Australian Chamber of Commerce! – This advert is now hung on the wall in the Australian Consulate

Sourceco Testimonial - Alie Livermore, Sourceco – China

As someone who has worked with his share of designers, during my years in the web industry, I know how hard it can be to communicate something as abstract as design to another person. Therefore I was more than happy after my first talks with Matt. Matt understood precisely what I wanted and he included me early on in his initial thoughts and design drafts. All communication went through e-mail or Skype and it went smoothly. The combination of being a really nice guy, with an excellent understanding of what I wanted and his amazing design skills, has made the whole process a pleasure.

Betafirm Testimonial - Bjørn Fridal – Founder of Betafirm

Matt was integral to the growth of Judd Farris property recruitment from a small recruitment firm to the largest specialist property recruiter in the world. Matt’s ingenuity and flair helped us to create a brand image that was instantaneously recognisable throughout the real estate sector. Matt was able to adapt a style for us that totally suited the image that we were striving to portray.
